Since I could shoot a bow and bring home game. There were few adults. It was mostly elders and children, considering the war. You learned and then you contributed to the whole.
It is strange. We did not participate in the conflict, yet we lost just as many men and women to it as those tribes that did.
At the hotel. There is shouting and noises here that I am trying to find the source of.
In Italy there was very little hunting for survival- it was more for nobles as game. Our food came from farms and markets, and the people there lived simple, but honest lives. I did not realize the hardship of the life of others until I became an Assassin.
War takes a toll on all those around it, even if they are not involved. There is no easy way to bear the scars that are left behind. I am sorry, Connor.
I want to take an apprentice. She fits all the criteria I would look for in one I would choose at home in speed talent mental fortitude morals but for her age.
She would benefit greatly from the Creed. Were I not here, I would have gone ahead and offered her the opportunity already without divulging our secrets but I want your blessing, and I would like you to observe her work. I took moving pictures with the device.
[Ah. Truth be told, Ezio was not expecting to receive a request like this. Connor wants to take someone in as a novice, and while he claims he is a mentor, Ezio knows he has had more experience than the other. It is not to lord it over him, but to preserve their ways, and he does not know this potential person or even thought of taking in recruits in a place such as this. Gaining allies is an obvious goal, of course, but there is so much instability within their own Bureau that bringing in others will only complicate things, rather than strengthen them.]
I was not aware we were looking for recruits. Who is she?
Not a recruit. This is not the place to be looking to expand the Order. Something new, something different. She could use the support of the Brotherhood and the guidance of the Creed.
Her name is Mindy Macready. I do not think she is older than eleven, and she is alone here. Both of her parents have died at home, the last one very recently. She is, as she puts it, experienced with killing 'bad guys'.
I do not quite understand what you desire clarification on? I wish to take her under the wing of the Brotherhood, train her as we would a novice. This is assuming she accepts.
I ask because it would involve teaching her things that usually are not mentioned outside of the Order. The philosophy, the fighting techniques. And if I am teaching her the hows and the whys, it feels the same as what I would teach a recruit, simply without the eventuality that she would become one of us. No one is here longer than a year or so on average, yes?
So you wish to train her as a recruit, but never truly induct her as one of our own. To teach her our ways but never call her "sorella" or "sister." Have yourself, us, be open and possibly vulnerable to prying questions and unwanted attention if word gets out about you teaching her. And try as you might to keep quiet, it will get out.
Forgive me for sounding against it, Connor- but the point of our Brotherhood is secrecy. "We work in the dark to serve the light." If we make ourselves that visible, we risk harm to everyone both in the Order and those who are connected to us. I am not so certain I am willing to place so much on the line to a girl I do not even know.
And while I am certain she is talented, she is still a child. Far below the age I would take in or even begin to consider her for our ranks. You speak of doing this in order to give her guidance, to support her. To be an influence, correct? We can support her and guide her, as you have suggested, but we must do so with her as an ally, or a recruit. There is no median when it comes to the Brotherhood.
I urge you to meet her. I have shied away from considering her a recruit because of the futility of the situation. You and I both know she will never move beyond novice, that she will more than likely not take the Creed with her when she returns.
In the end, if it is possible,I would prefer that she be taken as a recruit. I did not allow myself to consider that option, to be honest.
I am curious about one more matter. How old were you when you were introduced to the Order? Mindy is scant years younger than I was. What are the habits for this in your time?
[She breathes a sight of relief when he responds and it takes her longer, still, to type something back. And when she does, it's in two messages, disjointed.]
I will meet her. I understand how it seems pointless to want to recruit when there is no promise of staying here, but we must stay true to how the Brotherhood is as a whole. If we do not, anything that ties us together will be strained upon, and I do not want tensions amongst ourselves.
I will consider your input, however.
My journey into being an Assassin started when I was seventeen, believing that my anger was a justifiable reason to call myself one. It was not until ten years had passed that I began to understand the true meaning of what an Assassin stood for, and another ten years to fully come to realize what it meant for both myself, and those around me. Why are you asking?
[But he does. Not as a rescue, but to be a presence beside her. To offer comfort in a place where she has none. COMPASS is not kind in taking people here, but at times it is even worse when they return them home unannounced, leaving others to mourn in their absence once again.
It isn't long before he's made his way through the vegetation and into the library, looking for her with every step he takes.]
