He stands there in the wreck of an old building, one he really can't remember being in the town, and simply stares. Stares at the thing in his hand, something that brings far more pain than it should, floods his mind with memories of a life he used to have. Used to know and recognize. She stands a little off at a distance, concern on her face and forming words to say something.
He cuts her off before she can, voice turning irked and rough. "I said, go, Lii. Get out of here."
"I'm not going if you're staying." Hers is defiant.
That irks him. Because fuck, he wants her to leave him the hell alone, but he doesn't want to push her away. He won't show her what he's holding, it's too painful right now to say why or what it is, not out loud.
Not after everything he's gone through.
"Nero--"
"I said just go!!" It's a shout, anger clear in his voice, and Nero startles even himself with how dangerous he sounds, how raw he feels. Too many emotions with too much pain attached and he doesn't know else to react. How else to be. Other than to lash out and scream. He doesn't want to do that to Lii. She doesn't deserve it.
"Don't shove me out."
"Lii." A snarl. A warning. He doesn't want her to stay.
There is a long pause from her. One where it almost stills everything around the both of them, letting silence cover the emptiness there.
Finally, something is spoken. It's not what he expects.
"You aren't the only one who misses her, asshole."
The girl turns on her heel and leaves, anger in her eyes and hurt evident in her face. Nero turns to call out to her, to say something... but she's already gone. He swears, loudly, cursing himself for being careless, and punches a nearby leftover wall, the Devil Bringer glowing angrily to meet his emotions.
By himself, all that's left is the remainder of a black lace shawl and headdress imprinted into his hand. The memories come back, flooding his mind, one by one, and there he stands. Sinks to his knees. Buries his face into his hands and just lets time go.
five. {disasters and tragedy go hand in hand}
"Go. Just go."
